Achievements:
Dr. Ueda’s greatest achievement and the most memorable moment goes back to January 1973 when he published an article on glutamate transport, the primary transmitter in the center of our system, the brain. Obtained United States patent for composition and methods for the inhibition of neurotransmitter uptake of synaptic vesicles (2000); Discovery, purification and characterization of Synapsin I, and NADH-rubredoxin reductase; Discovery and characterization of the synaptic vesicle uptake system for glutamate; Discovery, purification, and characterization of an inhibitory protein factor, which reduces glutamate/GABA uptake into synaptic vesicles, Rose Bangel as a potent inhibitor of vesicular uptake of glutamate, GABA and monoamines, glycolytic ATP provides energy for neurotransmitter accumulation into synaptic vesicles; Discovery of synaptic vesicle-bound aspartate aminotransferase synthesizes the neurotransmitter glutamate.
